Kef KHT2005.3 System Video Review / Test

Transcript of Video Review

Hello there, my name is Chris - Sales Manager for Sound and Vision in Bolton.  We are looking at a range of speakers today from KEF.  The model number is the KHT2005.3.  The 2005 speakers have had rave reviews for years.  They are absolutely stunning.  You match these up with the correct amplifier and the sonic performance you get with this range of speakers is second to none.

They contain KEF’s unique Uni-Q drive unit.  I will bring them closer to the camera so we can have a closer look at that for you.  This is one of the satellite speakers.  They come with the footplate, so you can sit it on any flat surface.  This footplate you can take off here; now if you look underneath there you have actually got keyhole slots for wall mounting.  It unbolts from the back of the speaker here - it is an Allen key - you get the Allen key in the box - and you can attach this bracket then to the rear of the speaker here. And you can wall-mount this speaker - it comes with a bracket.

On the back of the speaker you have got your speaker connections.  These are attached directly to the speaker.  They are binding posts which just unscrew and you screw those back down to clamp the cable through the hole there.

They contain, as we have said, KEF’s unique Uni-Q drive unit.  You have got your base mid-range unit here with the tweeter mounted directly in the centre of the speaker.  Everything comes from one focal point.  There is no sort of definite sweet spot in the room; the sound is dispersed throughout the room so everyone listening in that room is getting good detail separation.

That is one of the satellite speakers.  As I said, you get four of these - two for the front, two for the rear.  The centre speaker is identical - it is just mounted horizontally.  As I said, it is an identical speaker.  All the cones are identical, which is really crucial when you are looking at sort of a 5.1 system is to get the tone matched to the centre, front and rear so there is no switch in volume levels and no sort of difference in treble or base as well.  So everything is tonally matched.

That is the centre speaker - yet again, an identical drive unit.  All these speakers are base-ported as well so they give a nice depth of base, even from the satellite speakers.  Yet again, it comes with a footplate; you can take this off here and attach it to the rear of the speaker, so you can actually wall-mount the centre speaker as well.

All the speakers in this KEF range are die-cast aluminium chassis on them.  The actual specification of the speakers themselves:  the satellite speakers will take any amplifier from 10 to 100 watts.  They go down to 80Hz but up to 27kHz.  The subwoofer, which is this unit here, is called the Cube 2 Subwoofer.  You have got drive units either side of the sub, firing out sideways on there.  It gives a nice dispersal of the base throughout the room.  The subwoofer goes down as low as 35Hz and up to 150Hz.  So 35Hz to 150Hz.  And there is a 200-watt output on there as well.

If I just take these speakers off here just for a second and we will have a closer look at the subwoofer.  In fact we will bring this closer to the camera for you - it is a bit of a weight but there we go!  On the back of the sub we have got on there two controls:  You have got your volume and the phase adjustment; and then here you have got your connections just on there as well, to connect up to your amplifier.

It is a fantastic-sounding system.  The speakers themselves are on permanent demonstration both in our Bolton store and also in our Leeds branch as well.  So if you want to have a listen to these, pop down to one of our stores either in Bolton or Leeds.

If you would like more details, go to our website which is or give me a call - my name is Chris; you will generally find me at the Bolton store, on 01204 861 861.  Or if you are watching this on some feed somewhere, there may be a link at the side of the screen here that you can click that will take you through to our website as well.  If you go through to our website, not only will you see reviews on this particular range of speakers - you will see other reviews on there for TVs, amplifiers and so forth as well.  So have a click through and have a browse through there.

Thank you.

If you‘re into quality home entertainment, you‘ll know about KEF‘s KHT2005 system - the original won so many awards and 5-star ratings that it would be hard not to.
But even rave reviews can‘t prepare you for the experience of listening to the latest version of this high performance system. Those distinctive cast aluminum enclosures house KEF‘s unique Uni-Q® arrays combined with sophisticated metal dome tweeters to deliver vocals that make your hair stand on end. As before, audiophile quality components are fitted throughout - and with KEF‘s Uni-Q, everyone in the room enjoys the same superbly detailed sound image wherever they are sitting.

KEF has always been renowned for design integrity, and the new KHT2005.3 is no exception. The cast aluminum enclosures of the satellite speakers are computer optimised to minimise internal resonance and distortion for a purer, cleaner sound. Being identical, there‘s a perfect tonal match between the front and rear surround speakers and the centre channel. The centre speaker can also be placed horizontally for better placement above or below the TV.
The ingenious multidirectional base has been improved and now makes it even easier to place satellite speakers virtually anywhere - on any flat surface, at any angle on walls, or on the optional stands. As they‘re fully magnetically shielded, there‘s no risk of interference with other equipment nearby.
Charismatic is the only word to describe the KHT2005.3, the latest evolution of the iconic and original ‘egg‘ - KHT2005.

The KUBE delivers a well defined and impressive bass that is sure to rock any home theatre. The powerful on-board Class-D amplifier has all the flexibility you need for personalising the output with frequency and level adjustments and a ‘Bass Boost’ control so any personal preference or room specific conditions can be catered for.
The KUBE-2 features a side-firing long-throw bass driver and is finished in black with a high gloss upper surface.
