Kef KHT3005SE System Black Gloss (HTB2SE) Video Review / Test

Transcript of Video Review

Hi there, my name is Chris - Sales Manager for Sound and Vision in Bolton.  What a fantastic range of speakers that you are looking at here today.  It is the KEF KHT3005SE.  It is the latest version of the KEF award-winning Egg Series of speakers.

The speakers themselves all use die-cast aluminium chassis so there is no resonance throughout the speaker.  They contain KEF’s unique Uni-Q drive unit.  The drive unit itself is basically you have got your base mid-range unit here, and the tweeter is mounted separately directly in the centre of the speaker.  So the tweeter is not offset like you see in a lot of speakers - everything is coming from one focal point.

This particular range of speakers also contains KEF’s unique - it is called a “tangerine wave design tweeter”.  The actual design on there - I don’t know if you can see that - the idea of this is to give you a wider dispersal of the high frequencies from the speaker itself, from the tweeter.  And it does work.  It gives you tremendous detail.

The speaker itself on the satellite is also rear-ported; you have got a base port at the rear of the speaker.  Those are your terminals for connecting up.  You have got your red and black terminals there.  They just unscrew - so you unscrew the terminal itself, connect the cable to it, and that just screws back up.

The actual footplate, which is just there for shelf mounting on any flat surface - you can actually detach this from the rear of the speaker.  You have got your fixers on here for wall mounting.  Attach it to the rear of the speaker here and that becomes then your wall bracket.

The speaker grills are magnetic - they just pop on like so.  The centre speaker has the identical Uni-Q drive unit but you have got an additional feature on the centre speaker where you have got two more base speakers.  So you have got base drivers here and here - the same drive unit in the centre.

Yet again, the same controls underneath there for connection for your speakers, and magnetic grill again on there. Tremendous centre speaker as well; the sound quality is absolutely fantastic from it.

The subwoofer - what a fantastic design!  A lot of subwoofers are just sort of square boxes.  On this particular unit, it is an oval shape; you have got your drive unit at the front and at the rear to give you a fantastic dispersal of the sound for the base.  Then underneath here you have got all your controls and adjustments for the subwoofer on there.  What a beautiful design for the sub!

The speakers themselves - if we go through quickly just some of the specification for it:  The actual satellite speakers, which are these units here, you get four of these - two for the front, two for the rear.  They will go down to 70Hz up to 55kHz.  They are 8 Ohm-rated and will handle up to 100 watts.  So, satellite speakers 70Hz to 55kHz, 8 Ohm and 100 watts.

The centre speaker is slightly different because of the additional base units in there.  It will go down to 65Hz, so it will go down slightly lower; up to 55kHz because it uses the same tweeter; 8 Ohm and 100 watts.

The subwoofer - and it is a fantastic sub this; the drive units on this subwoofer are really taut so they react extremely quickly.  So it is very good for speakers for music or for home theatre.  It is a fantastic speaker system.

The speakers themselves, as I said, apart from wall mounting or shelf mounting, there are floor stands that you can get for them as well.

Just going back to the subwoofer, the subwoofer itself will go down to as low as 30Hz, so extremely low, up to 150Hz, and has 250 watts output.  So 250 watts output from the sub, down to 30Hz and up to 150Hz.

So a fantastic range of speakers.  They are on permanent demonstration in our Bolton and Leeds stores - so pop down to any of those stores for a demonstration.  You can view these, if you are viewing this on a link, click the link at the side of the screen if there is a link there - that will take you through to our website.  If there is no link there, go to our website which is www.soundandvision.co.uk

You will find this group of speakers and many more with video reviews against them.  You will also find TVs on there with other video reviews, as well as amplifiers as well.  Please go through to our website, or give me a call - my name is Chris - at the Bolton store on 01204 861 861.

Thank you.

A quest for perfection...

The 3000 series is the revolutionary result of harnessing nearly 50 years of experience in creating technically innovative and beautiful loudspeakers.

KHT3005 is an extremely high performance, yet room-friendly home theatre system, which raises both the design and performance benchmarks in the category of elegant home theatre speaker packages.

The specially shaped curved aluminium enclosures make for an acoustically ideal housing. Simply put, the HTS3001 satellites sound much better than traditional rectangular loudspeakers.

KEF’s ´sit anywhere´ Uni-Q® technology disperses sound around the room so well that you can ´sit anywhere´ to enjoy the optimum surround experience.

The radical new ´sealed suspension technology™´ incorporated in the speaker driver makes for cleaner, smoother response: The satellites can play astonishingly loud, without sounding unpleasant.
The distinctive ribs visible on the speaker cone improve rigidity. This makes for a clean, natural and dynamic sound.

So gorgeous: HTB2 is the first subwoofer at this price level that you will want to show off!

Ultra-reliable high efficiency 250W class D amplifier. Plays very loud and clean all day long, if necessary.

250mm (10in.) driver with matching passive bass radiator. This configuration ensures that the surprisingly small enclosure reaches down to give astonishing deep bass, and can deliver both awesome movie effects and subtle musicality, as needed.

Flexible positioning. Depending on your space requirement or your visual preference, vertical or horizontal orientation is possible.

Acoustically inert enclosure shaped to eliminate internal standing waves. In a nutshell, no nasty buzzes or rattles when driven hard.

SmartBass™ ´connect and go´ feature for simplicity of set up. Our engineers have carefully designed HTB2 to be as simple and practical as possible; just connect it to the mains and your AV receiver to be assured of optimum performance without the hassle of "tweaking".
