Transcript of Video Review

Hi there, my name is Chris - Sales Manager for Sound and Vision in Bolton.  We are looking at a new product range today from Panasonic.  Two models in the range:  the TXL32D28 and the TXL37D28.  They are both the same specification, apart from one fact which is the power consumption, which is 136 watts on the 32 inch and 147 watts on the 37 inch.  Apart from that, the specification is identical on both models.  The model we are showing here at the moment is the 37 inch version.

So let’s just run through quickly some of the general specification on this range.  First of all, they are LED edge-lit, so extremely slim panels.  With them being LED you get an extremely high contrast ratio.  You have 2 million : 1 contract so you are achieving a really good deep black level.  So you achieve a good natural colour palette on this range, good depth of field on the picture and great detail on the darker areas of the screen as well.

They are also 100Hz scanning.  But what it also does on this range is that, in conjunction with the 100Hz, it flashes the backlight so fast you can’t see it.  So in conjunction with the 100Hz signal, to take that up to 200Hz - they call it a 200Hz or a 200 backlight blinking system - what that does is control motion really well so you get extremely good, smooth flow of any fast movement.  So whether you are watching sports or movies, you are going to get no delay or drag in the image; you are going to get a superb control over that fast movement.

The TVs themselves have also got Panasonic’s Viera Cast which we will demonstrate in a moment, where you can get onto some Internet functions through the TV.  We will also go through all the sockets on the rear of the TV and the side - as I said, they are LED so they are extremely slim as well.

So let’s go through some of these functions on the menu system for you.  So, on the Panasonic you get that remote control which you have a button on here which says Viera Cast.  We will go through the Viera Cast features first of all.  If you press the Viera Cast button on there, it will start to load up now onto the Internet sites.  You can either do this wired - you have got a LAN connection on the back of the TV so you can physically wire it.  Or you can do it wirelessly - you can get a wireless dongle to plug into the port on the rear of the TV and you can use this wirelessly as well.

So we have loaded up the first page here and we have got options such as YouTube, Eurosport, Daily Motion, Movies on Demand.  And we can then go up, down right and left on the keypad and go into any of those, such as YouTube.  And once we are into the YouTube menu, we can jog down there and look at the most viewed or top-rated, and you just click OK in the centre of the remote control and it will throw you into those various different video clips.  And then you just jump down to whichever one of those you want to view.  Once you are on that particular video clip you would just press OK and you would be on that particular clip.

We will just come out of that for a second.  You can also search.  So if we go into the Search menu, you can then go through the alphabet and literally just punch in anything on there that you want to search for.  And as you go through that menu, you just go through the various different options of the alphabet - we will just punch in there XTC and it puts in all the band’s videos and hits up there; and you would then just literally jog down and highlight which one you want on there. And, yet again, you would just press OK and on it would go to that particular video clip.  That will load up in just a second. There we go.  And obviously you have got the volume for that as well.

Very good sound system on this TV also - which, yet again, we will go through the menus and show you different options in the sound as well.

So we will just come off there for a second.  As well as the YouTube menu on there, you have got Eurosport yet again just highlighted on there.  Press OK, it will take us onto the Eurosport site, and then we have got all the different options on there as well.  Yet again, just highlight what you want to view.

Come out of there.  At the top here we have got Skype.  You can make Skype to Skype phone calls.  So if you know somebody else that is on Skype, all those phone calls would be free of charge.

If we come down to More, click OK in the centre of there, and then we have got even more options to jump into.  If you have got photographs stored through the Picasa system, we can highlight that; we can go into Picasa and you can have all your photographs that you may have stored through your PC system.  If we go into those now and access those - there we go - just highlight any of those photographs that you want to display on the screen; press OK and it will show you that photograph.  You can also play a slide show of all your photographs.  And they will just scroll over onscreen for all the different photographs that you may have stored on there.

Just come out of that section now for you.  Back into the main Viera Cast Menu.  So, as I said, you have got various sort of web searching functions that are built into the TV.  If we come out of that menu now and just go into the general menu for the TV, you have got a button up there - top-left of the remote.  Press Menu.  A very good menu system on the Panasonic; it takes us through Picture, Sound and Setup - nice and simple.  The top one there, just press OK on the remote and you have got different options for Viewing Mode - for Dynamic, Normal, Cinema, or True Cinema.  They are preset modes from the manufacturer which determine how the contrast, brightness and colour and sharpness is set, but you can jog down into any of those and alter the colour, brightness, sharpness to however you want it.  You can make your own personal settings on there.

You have also got Panasonic’s C.A.T.S. system built into the TV.  And you can probably see the contrast changing slightly there as you turn that On or Off.  If you leave it on, there is a photocell then at the bottom of the TV here which determines the ambient light of the room and it will always keep the contrast at the maximum potential for you on the set itself.  So you have got the Panasonic C.A.T.S. system built into there.

If we jog down from there into the Sound Menu, as I said before, we have got a very good sound system built into this TV.  You get plenty of depth of base in it.  You have got preset modes for Music, User or Speech.  In the Music or Speech modes, you have just got settings for base and treble.  If you go into the User mode, it opens up an equalizer.  So in that mode, you have got adjustments then for the base at this end, and at the top end here you have got the treble.  So you have got base and treble on there.  But then you have got all the mid-tone adjustments for the mid range.  So you have got a vast range of adjustments that you can make over the tone on the TV as well.

You have also got preset in here Surround Sound Off.  So you have got Standard Stereo Sound or V Audio Pro Sound where it will throw the sound out and around you - and it does work very well.  So a very good sound system into this TV.

The bottom of the TV here, you have go the pedestal stand which projects to the rear of the TV.  It is removable is you want to wall-mount it.  So at the front of the TV you see no pedestal stand - it is all to the rear.  What we will do when we have finished with the sockets on the rear of the TV, I will spin it round and give you a close-up of the front just to show you what it looks like at the front.  As I said, there is no pedestal showing at the front of the TV.

So let’s go through the sockets on the rear of the set.  First of all, this TV has got Freesat HD built into it.  So at the top of the TV here you have got a satellite connection.  Connect this to a standard Skye satellite dish, and you have got a free HD service for BBC and ITV.  As you come down from there you have got a USB connection, so you can put the memory stick into the back of this TV - if you have got photographs, music; whatever you have got stored on there you can send through to the TV set itself.

If you have got Ethernet ports; if you want to hardwire this to your PC, you can do so.  As I said, you can get a wireless dongle and do it wirelessly as well.  Coming down from there you have got three HDMI inputs on the back here.  You have also got two scarts.  There is an Optical Socket Out, so if you want to feed the sound digitally out of this TV through an external amplifier you can do so.  Just to the side of that you have got the PC connection, the VGA socket, so you can wire your laptop or PC through that socket.  You have got Component, which is the red/green/socket - a lot of games consoles use Component - you

have got that on there.  That is just the Audio Feed In for Component.  And you have also got Audio Analogue Out.  So if you don’t have optical on your equipment you can feed the sound out via Analogue Audio Out to get the sound out of the TV that way.

On here you have got the aerial coaxial socket.  This TV has got Freeview HD; it has also got Freesat HD as well. So you can plug this just into your standard TV aerial and you will get BBC HD, ITV HD and Channel 4 HD just through your standard TV aerial.

Your wall-mounting sockets are here on the back of the TV.  The spacings on those are 200ml by 200ml, so it is a VESA 200 bracket - that is on the 37D28.  Okay, so here we have the side-on view of the TV.  Now, as you can see, this is not the camera that is at an angle here - the TV does actually slope slightly backwards.  With the stand that is on this TV, which as I said is to the rear of the set, the set does slope backwards.  And I will show you at the front of the TV in a moment that we don’t see the pedestal.

So the sockets on the side of the TV: you have got another USB socket; coming down from there you have got your CI slot, your common interface slot, so if you want to get onto any pay per view movies or anything like that - pay per view channels then you have got the option of doing that through the CI slot.  There is also an SD card reader on there as well, so you have got any movies or photographs or an SD card, you can have that in the TV.  You have got another HDMI, making four HDMIs in total.  Then just underneath there you have got Composite Video, which is the yellow, white and red socket.  Yet again, a lot of games consoles use that such as Wii games console.  Then finally just underneath there, you have got a headphone socket.

Okay, so we are back now with the front view of the TV.  Just to show you what we were talking about before regarding the pedestal stand, all the pedestal stand is to the rear of the TV.  There is no pedestal stand showing to the front at all.  You have just got the sort of flush look of the TV here, with it slightly tilting back.

Okay, so let’s just recap.  We have got a range here which is Internet-ready; you can hardwire this and you have got Internet functions built into the TV.  You can do it wirelessly as well by getting a wireless dongle.  They are Freeview HD; they have got Freesat HD, so you have got a free HD service built into the TV.  So if you can’t get Freeview HD in your area through your TV aerial you have got the option of doing it through a satellite system.  They are full HD, so they cope with 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolution; 2 million : 1 contrast.  Superb picture and sound quality.

If you would like more details on this range, please give me a ring - my name is Chris - on 01204 861 861, or go to our website which is www.soundandvision.co.uk.  There is a lot more to see on our website when you go through to there.  This is one particular model with the video clip on but there are models on there from the entire Panasonic range, Sony, Sharp - various different makes and models with video clips against them so you can view the product before you buy.  Or go into our store in Bolton or in Leeds.  If you are watching this through YouTube or some of the other links there will be a link at the side of the screen that you can click through to, to go to our website.  Or, as I said, just go directly to our website, which is www.soundandvision.co.uk for more details.

Thank you.
